Classes

The Muskoka District Kennel Club has many different classes available. We utilize an experienced members base to provide you with a proven track record for positive results based socialization and training. To see which class or classes are better suited for you and your dog, see the listings of classes below.
We only ask that you come to our training classes with an open mind and a willingness to learn. This is not just a session for your dog to become more accustomed to training techniques but for the handlers and owners to learn how to better train the family pets.
Puppy Socialization
Muskoka District Kennel Club offers this class for those dogs
under 6 months of age.
Second shots are required at time of sign-up and must be accompanied
for registration. The purpose of this class is merely to focus on
the socialization of your puppy in this very important learning
time.
Often aggressive behaviour is linked to a lack of socialization.
Your puppy will learn to work around other dogs, but also to have
fun.
Beginners
MDKC offers this class for those dogs who are over 6 months of age. The focus of this class is to provide some basic obedience lessons while providing the handlers/owners with the tools necessary to continue training and development .It is not required to have any previous training to attend this class.
Intermediate-Advanced
MDKC offers these classes for those who have completed the beginner class and now want more advanced training. The focus of the class is determined by the development of each individual dog. We will reinforce the basic training techniques acquired in the beginner class while training new, more advanced techniques. This course may also be used for those individuals who are interested in advancing to competition or trial.
Trial Preparation
Trial preparation continues the learning journey of the dog and
its handler, to learning, practicing and perfecting the tasks that
dogs perform in trial.
Most of the club members have been competing in obedience and
trials and can offer lots of good advice, tips and training skills
to help you achieve great results in the ring.
Agility Training
Agility is where dogs compete on an obstacle course for the best
times. It is like a "steeplechase" for dogs.
Agility requires teamwork between the dog and her handler.
The course consists of obstacles, tunnels, jumps and ramps. It
fosters a special bond between the handler and the dog and is an
exciting sport for both.
Rally O Training
Rally Obedience is a fun dog obedience sport, open to ALL dogs,
purebred or mixed breed, pets or titled champions as well as
physically challenged dogs and/or handlers.
Rally Obedience goes beyond basic heeling by interspersing over
forty obedience movements with the sits, turns and paces of
traditional heeling. It also requires a brisk pace, positive
attitude and happy demeanour.
Now recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club, this is a fun way for
you and your dog to show your talents, and earn rewards.
